No matter the topic, all my keynotes are designed to support adults' and children's social emotional learning and development. My goal is for attendees to come away feeling validated and motivated, with the knowledge and tools to become more confident, competent and compassionate!

All Keynotes Are Also:

Grounded in Current Research and Best Practices

I present interaction and teaching strategies that are research-based, trauma-informed and respectful of diversity.  My keynotes are grounded in developmentally appropriate practice and emphasize the influence of relationships on development and the importance of play for learning.

Loaded with Practical and Beneficial Information

My keynotes are content-rich and include practical strategies that can be implemented right away.  I am committed to sharing resources and making myself available to attendees after conferences, so they feel supported as they try out new knowledge and skills.

Framed within a Unique Social-Emotional Learning Model

I’ve re-packaged advice from several experts to help attendees support children’s emotional needs creating the “Four C’s Framework of Emotional Support”. This unique model:

  • Improves program climate and classroom management
  • Builds self-regulation and resilience
  • Reduces challenging behaviors
  • Supports children with mental health special needs

We can also offer a Christian perspective!

I enjoy sharing my faith by employing a Christ-centered approach, available in all my keynote presentations and conference sessions. Your attendees will gain knowledge and skills that are based on the latest research and that promote Christian values as well!

Keynotes for Administrators and Teachers

Challenging Behavior from the Child's Perspective

Hear from a parent-child pair as they share personal stories of the struggles and successes they experienced during the child’s challenging early years. Explore common concerns of special-needs families like theirs and learn about research-based strategies to support the children. Examine roadblocks to partnerships with these families and discuss ways to overcome them.  You will leave ready to develop more compassionate relationships with all your children and families.

Handling Tantrums and Meltdowns

When children experience an emotional meltdown, their behavior is telling us they need our help handling the situation.  The most important thing we can do is to remain calm ourselves, which is of course much easier said than done! In this session you will learn helpful strategies for keeping your cool, and explore three other emotional supports children really need from us during a meltdown.   You’ll also discover what they don’t need in the moment of a meltdown and why.  Leave with the knowledge and strategies to handle future meltdowns with confidence and skill.

Keynotes for Early Childhood Teachers

Building Better Brains

Research shows that “serve and return” interactions beginning in infancy build a strong foundation for children’s brain development, affecting them for their lifetimes.  Discover how relationships between children and caring adults affect the children’s ability to learn, their behavior and even their health.  Leave with many strategies, activities and games for strengthening relationships with all your children, and you’ll leave ready to be a skilled brain-builder!

Play Is Powerful

Children’s best learning happens through play, and play provides the best opportunities for us to learn about children.  Of course, play is fun for adults, too!  Such is the power of play:  It is beneficial for the children and for us, for learning and for fun.  Discover the importance of play, identify which types of play have the most benefit for you and for your children, and get tips for being a good observer.  Learn to put more play into your schedule, and all your days will become even more powerful times of learning and fun!

Keynotes for Early Childhood Administrators

"The Four C's" of Emotional Support

Learn a structure of emotional supports that will transform your entire program!  It will help you boost your own and your teachers’ emotional intelligence, enabling all of you to work with children and adults more compassionately, confidently and competently.  When your teachers use the 4 C’s in the classroom, they will help improve their children’s behavior, contribute to their resiliency, build their self-regulation skills, support their social-emotional development and much more! Your program’s connection to your families will be enhanced, contributing to their satisfaction with your program.  The 4 C’s are a win, win, win, win!

Challenging Behavior from the Child's Perspective

Learn about possible pathways to children’s challenging behaviors through personal stories and evidence from experts.  You will be challenged to welcome these children into their programs and to commit to helping the children improve their behavior within the program, instead of removing them.  With your support, your teachers can learn skills to build relationships and to prevent or handle the behaviors. The children and their families, your teachers and your program will all benefit!

My conference sessions and child care training can also be presented as keynotes.
